Safety Standards

Baldwin & Shell believes safety on a construction project job site should always be the number one priority of each person who enters that job site. Baldwin & Shell was the first Arkansas Contractor who effectively implemented a safety program. All Superintendents are required to successfully complete annual training for 1st Aid and CPR. They are also required to hold weekly safety and training meetings on every job site for all workers. Also, an annual safety & training meeting is required for ALL Baldwin & Shell Employees. To promote the importance of safety of all employees, our Safety Department implemented the Safety Incentive Award Program to award prizes when an employee reaches certain hours worked without an accident.

The Arkansas Chapter of Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) joined forces to form a partnership to encourage safety on construction sites, which is known as the Safety and Health Arkansas Associated General Contractors Partnership for Excellence (SHAAPE). Baldwin & Shell joined this partnership, which requires employers to meet certain criteria for safety. An annual inspection is conducted on a job site chosen by the OSHA inspector to verify compliance. In accordance with the partnership, EVERY Superintendent is required to attend an OSHA 10-Hour Safety and Training refresher course annually. Our Safety Director is required to attend an OSHA 30-Hour Safety and Training refresher course annually. In addition to the training explained above, all Superintendents are required to attend approximately two to three OSHA New Standards or update/refresher courses annually.

Our Safety Director makes on site safety inspections at a minimum of twice a month with written documentation. Also, the loss prevention department of our Workman’s Compensation insurance company, Bituminous Insurance, provide monthly inspection of job sites and training to our employees.
