Copas began with Baldwin & Shell in 2003 spending his days as a laborer and his evenings taking construction management and business classes at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Over the past 16 years, Copas has worked his way up from the job site to Division President.
"From the first day he picked up a hammer in the field to today as a division President, Nick has displayed a unique passion for the construction business. We anticipate that he will bring the same level of drive and determination to his position on the Board," explains President/CEO Scott Copas.
In late 2008, Copas began working at the corporate headquarters as a project coordinator, and after displaying a talent for cost estimating and quantitative analysis soon became a project manager. Tasked with estimating and managing the company's metal building contracts, Copas envisioned a new concentration of services to grow the company's conventional steel erection and concrete services. Just one year later, he built such a substantial backlog of work that a promotion to Division Manager with a full support staff soon followed.
Copas became Vice President of Industrial and Structural Services in 2014. During the two years he served as Vice President, he reintroduced Baldwin & Shell to the manufacturing sector and developed more than 30 new private sector clients. He also successfully executed the firm's first joint venture contract, the largest metal building and concrete project to date, and has been instrumental in expanding Baldwin & Shell's business beyond the borders of Arkansas. Copas was promoted to division President in 2017.
